A Clinical child psychologist from North London has found a way to help parents to help their children with their mental health. Leanne Cowan is a highly specialist Clinical Child Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience and the founder of KindleKids Child Psychologists (www.kindlekids.org.uk).  Like many psychologists, Leanne does not have the capacity to offer support to all the parents and children who contact her for one-to-one support, and realised that the way that psychologists work needs to change so that more people can access quality support that is both affordable, and available when they need it. Leanne has always been a very creative psychologist and has developed a range of unique strategies that she has used to with the many children that she has helped over the past 20+ years. She has now taken all of these strategies and put them into an online course that is accessible and helpful to both parents and children of all ages.

Leanne created the P.O.W.E.R. course, which stands for the Psychology of Wellbeing and Emotional Resilience, and it teaches exactly that.  It is a one-of-a-kind program Leanne shared “I have put all of my unique practical ideas, techniques and strategies that have worked successfully for my therapy clients into an 8-week course with weekly interactive videos and helpful worksheets.  I originally ran this on Zoom as a live workshop and the feedback was so positive – I recorded the program, to make it more accessible and affordable, and I am now offering it to parents to help their children”.

This course contains a wealth of practical strategies to teach children to manage their emotions including their anxiety, anger and low mood.  It has tools to build their confidence, create better relationships with others, become more aware of their social skills and to cope with life’s challenges.  The strategies she shares helps parents to effectively support their children to manage their emotions and feel better about themselves. In less than an hour a week for 8 weeks, parents can help their children to access the skills to help themselves manage their mental health better.

The P.O.W.E.R. course offers access to 8 modules filled with practical strategies for parents and children, a step by step guide of how to help children and is filled with lots of parenting tips.  Each module also has engaging worksheets to support children in their learning and development.

Session 1: Learning to Understand and Regulate Emotions

Session 2: How to Change our Thoughts to Feel Happier.

Session 3: Understanding Stress and Taming Anxiety

Session 4: More Strategies for Anxiety, Sleep and Separation Anxiety

Session 5: Managing Angry Outbursts

Session 6: Developing Confidence and Learning to Like Ourselves

Session 7: Successful Social Skills

Session 8: Understanding Behaviour and Tips for Sibling Rivalry

After doing the course, one parent commented ‘I’m making my way through your course and it is fantastic.  I am picking up lots of strategies and I’m actually applying it not only to my children but myself as well…  thank you, this course has really helped!’ Another mentioned ‘I knew something needed to change but I didn’t know how to do it. But now I have the tools to make the change and can really see things improving’.  More testimonials are available on the webpage below.
